There is no doubt that who rents a holiday home in Marina di Campo is driven by the intention to enjoy the largest sand beach on the island of Elba. But perhaps you are interested in seeing something more than the excellent ice-cream parlours and beautiful seafront: in this case, we suggest you an activity free of charge: two pedestrian tracks, extremely user-friendly and beautiful in terms of landscape and nature, the first starting from the port until the beach of Galenzana, and the second starting from the opposite edge, in Foci, following a long stretch of the coast until the beach of Fonza. Galenzana is a beautiful white sand beach that can be accessed only through a pedestrian path of approx. 1.5 km, therefore it is scarcely frequented, even if it is only half an hour walk amongst Mediterranean vegetation. From the port of Marina di Campo, you must take the steps on the left side of Locman jeweller’s store in via Bellavista, along path no. 39. At the end of the steps, first in granite and then in cement, the path becomes a dirt road that follows a metal fence, after a few minutes you will find a votive chapel; turn left down the slope and continue straight until the beach where you can relax totally undisturbed, even in August. If you wish instead to do some trekking, you can continue until Capo Pro and turn towards Colle Palombaia where you will be drawn to the clear waters of its small beach. The other pedestrian path follows the coastline from Marina di Campo until the beach of Fonza. Departure is at the end of the beach, you climb a steep asphalted road and after a few minutes, a charming view will open up in front of you, facing the entire Gulf of Campo and beyond. It is not necessary to reach the beautiful beach of Fonza to admire the breathtaking sea landscapes and cliffs where you can dive into the sea that seems miles away compared to the noise of the vast beach in front of view! Both paths belong to a coastal track sponsored by the National Park and created by the local company “Acqua dell’Elba” that foresees the re-opening and maintenance of over 130 km of paths along the coast called “Via dell’Essenza”.
